Lot And His Daughters

Abram [now called Abraham ... as The Lord renamed him, because he was going to be the father of God's nation] got up the morning of the Great Burning of Sodom and Gomorrah and went to a place where he stood in the Presence of The Lord.

As he looked towards the far horizon, towards Sodom and Gomorrah, there was burning smoke as far as he could see ... as if it was a coal oven.

When The Lord burned everything He thought of Abraham, and He saved Lot, who was family of Abraham.

When Lot and his family hurried away from Sodom, the angel commanded them not to look back, as they were not allowed to see the Wrath of God.  He warned them that they would die if they see it.  Lot's wife couldn't resist and she turned around and looked back ... she immediately turned into a salt pillar.

Lot waited in Zoar for everything to quiet down after the hell that God had unleashed on Sodom and Gomorrah, and then he and his daughters fled to live in the mountains.  He didn't want to take a chance on The Lord's Wrath ... and Zoar was too close for comfort to the then non-existing Sodom and Gomorrah.   No, it was safer in the mountains.

They found a suitable cave and decided to live there.

As time goes by, the two daughters saw that their chances were getting slim to find husbands on a mountain in a desert where only three people lived.

Then one night the eldest said the her younger sister: 'We're going nowhere and we need to have children.  I say we must make father drunk and have intercourse with him.  We can then at least secure that we will get pregnant.'

They agreed and that night they made Lot so drunk that he didn't know that he was having intercourse with his eldest daughter.  The next day she arranged with the younger sister that it was her turn.

That night they did the same thing to Lot ... this time it was the younger daughter.

And so did the daughters of Lot got pregnant by their father.

The eldest called her son Moab and he became the father of the Moabites.  The youngest called her son Ben-ammi and he became the father of the Ammons.
